Al Qaeda Threatening More Attacks?

Last weekend, WikiLeaks released tens of thousands of documents related to the American effort in Afghanistan. Defense Secretary Robert Gates condemned the leaks, "The battlefield consequences of the release of these documents are potentially severe and dangerous for our troops, our allies and Afghan partners, and may well damage our relationships and reputation in that key part of the world." Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Adm. Mike Mullen attacked WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, "Mr. Assange can say whatever he likes about the greater good he thinks he and his source are doing, but the truth is they might already have on their hands the blood of some young soldier or that of an Afghan family."

It is also important to note that the leaked documents reinforce something we already knew, that Al Qaeda and Iran have been in collusion. Leaked intelligence reports show collaboration between Al Qaeda and Iran on suicide attacks in Afghanistan.

On Tuesday, Al Qaeda's second in command, Ayman Al-Zawahiri, released a new tape threatening more attacks against the U.S. This should serve as a reminder to all that we are still at war. Al-Zawahiri also eulogized Mustafa Abu Al-Yazid in the video. Al-Yazid was Al Qaeda's number three who was killed in May by an American missile in Pakistan.
